Job
(The Bible)
The Story of Job?Is it God?s choosing that the great mystery of life remains hidden from us??The Biblical story of Job is the story of every man who understands the courage that it takes to be a disciple of Christ.Job does not question God in his success ?it is only when he is in the midst of grief that He wonders why God has forsaken him.As Job grieves, the men who were once his friends scoff at him, warning him that it is his sins which have brought about his downfall. They deride him for causing the losses of his wealth, family, and health. In addition, they warn him that he must repent in order to be returned to the favor of God.Job knows he has not caused these things to come upon him, neither does he blame God for their happenings. However, he does feel as God has forsaken him in his suffering. When he cries out to his Heavenly Father, God asks him who he is to question Him. He asks Job a question: ??Where were you when I created the earth and humankind.?Accepting that God is all powerful and not be questioned Job cries out for relief. In the end, God restores Job?s wealth, family, and health, ten-fold to what they once were. His friends marvel at this. The purposes of God have been served through Job?s life, as it is in all things. Christians are to regard this as a sign of God?s power and His Divinity. This does not mean that our troubles will be less than Job?s, but it gives us hope of being restored, and made whole. However, it is God?s choosing that the great mystery of life remains hidden to us.
