Write your abstract here. R.K. Narayan was a celebrated Indian writer. He was the greatest indian storyteller ever. His books are such, that they are bound to mesmerise you, and his narrative is so real you can actually see his stories like you do on the celluloid.his works comprise of novels (The bachelor of arts, The dark room, The english teacher, Mr. samparth - the printer of malgudi, The financial expert, Waiting for the Mahatma, The Guide, The man-eater of Malgudi, The vendor of sweets, The painter of signs, A Tiger of malgudi, A talkative man, The world of Nagaraj,Grandmother's tales,Swami and friends ), Stories (A horse and Two goats, An astrologer's day and other stories, Lawley road, Malgudi days, Under The banyan tree and other stories), Memoirs (My days),Essays (Next sunday, Reluctant guru, A writer's nightmare, The world of a story teller) and Retold legends(Gods, demons and others, The Ramayana, The Mahabharata) .The book I will be talking about in perticular is Swami and Friends, It is the most wonderful book I have ever read, It is about a 10 years old boy named Swami who lives in a small town in south India called Malgudi(set in the pre- indian indipendnce era i.e before 1947).Now Swami is a not so simple south indian boy, his life is all about avoiding the tantrums of homework ,examinations his teachers(and their unique punishments) and all the adults around. Swami's school has been described by the writer beautifully, its has got bullys, boring classes, weird maths teacher and yes Swami's worst enemy the Scripture yeacher who was fond of insulting indian gods (in the pre indipendence era there were lot of missionaries in India who goaled a large scale conversion). The book unfols every aspect in the life of a 10 year old (altough the book was written almost 62 years back Swami's character can be related with a 10 year old in an Indian village). A book about an indian kid with no cricket is impossible, cricket the book says is swami's greatest passion and this passion gives birth to M.C.C (Malgudi cricket Club). Swami's life sees a tremendous change when he lands in troble by being carried away in the dramtic srtggle of indian indipendence in 1930. he gets himself expelled from two schools in succession, and is forced to run away from home.By the delicate use of detail sympathetically observed., the author establishes for us the child's world as the child himself sees it; and beyond the adult community he will one day belong to - in swami's case, the town of Maludi, which provides the setting of almost all Narayan's later novels. It is a book in ten thousand - Graham Greene Abstract Written by.
