The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
(Douglas Adams)

The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, where to start. If you like romance and everything turning out OK, this is not the book for you. However if you like irrelevant, funny and sometimes, nauseating comedy Sci-Fi novels, read this. The book starts of with an ordinary bloke who one day wakes up with a hangover to rival Attila the Hun for beastliness; and the realisation that the council wants to knock his house down. Unbeknown to him, this is not the worst of his problems. A ship full of the vilest bureaucrats called the Vogons are hovering in earths orbit, waiting to destroy the earth. Enter Ford Prefect, best friend of Arthur and interesting from a small planet near Betelgeuse, and not from Guilford as he had told Arthur. From here, if you do not have a degree in physics and a very good imagination, things could get confusing! Ford saves Arthur by hitchhiking on to the Vogon Construction Fleet, and Arthur finds himself sucked into a world were nothing makes sense anymore. Luckily, Ford is a reporter for the "most popular reference work in the milky way" and explains this bizarre new world as Arthur finds himself increasingly far from earth.....
Arthur meets many strange and often disturbing creatures roaming about in the galaxy. The one person who he never expected to see was Tricia McMillan, now known as 'Trillian'. She was a girl that he 'completely failed to chat up' at a party at a flat in Islington. Trillian had escaped a few months before the earths destruction with Zaphod Beetlebrox, "after all with a degree in maths, and another in Astrophysics...it was either that or the dole queue again on Monday."Marvin, the manically Depressed Robot with a"brain the size of a small planet" completed this motley crew; and together they begin there quest to find 'The answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything"!I would recommend this book to anyone, it is just so funny! Where else would you find a robot who is manically depressed, and the answer to Life the Universe and everything! Find a nice spaceport somewhere and read this magnificent book. Oh, and don't forget your towel!
