Alcoholism living with it and not denying it

There are many addictions that have a very negative impact upon those that are bound to them. There are few that can compete with Alcoholism and there are even fewer addictions that are overlooked like alcoholism is. Many people are unwilling in living with it and not denying it as alcoholism is one that has also been seen by many as a disease that can destroy not just families and lives, but can effectively end them as well.

There are countless people that are touched by the bitter sting that is created by the vise known as alcoholism. Many people are so eager to turn a blind eye to the addiction and are more willing to hide from it than to admit that they are living with a corruption of the body and the heart.

Alcoholism is one of the few addictions that will haunt a person and has more relapses than any other addiction save two: heroin and tobacco. Alcohol is one that slows the reflexes and deadens the thought process. Many people have been known to consume large amounts and are unaware of how drunk then truly are. Many alcoholics drink themselves to a point that they are seldom sober. This is a reality that is quite scary as these people seldom see that they are a danger to those that are around them and many times fail to realize just how disabled they become from they alcoholism. The most common perception is that they are not bound by alcoholism.

Not all forms of alcoholism are to this extent, there are those that are deemed as social alcoholics and are seeing that they have no vise in this. The sad part is that many of them can?t see the fine line between alcoholism and social drinking. The first true step to gaining control of one?s life is to face it, alcoholism is something that they have to be living with and not denying.

Many people with alcoholism will deny their failing until something forces them to open their eyes, it is called a moment of clarity and is when the person is truly living with it and not denying it. These people usually are focused on overcoming the addiction at that point and will do all that they can to overcome it. Alcoholism has destroyed more lives than any other drug to date and is one that many fear when they see a family member drinking all the time. The sad part is that they are usually more than eager to deny it as the person with the problem is.
