I don't know how many of you out there know of the actor Tim Allen (
Home Improvement, The Santa Clause) but he actually wrote a book. At first glance, just from reading the title of the book, most would suspect it to be nothing more than a comedy, but even comedies have a purpose.
This book actually talks about an issue that authors have been trying to explain away for years: What makes men and women so different? In the book you'll hear all of Tim Allen's theories on the battle of the sexes and why gender differences are so intriguing to the human mind. The book explores gender roles in all angles of single and married life, and helps to explain the differences between genders using humorous analogies and his own explanations of the world from a man's point of view (Tim Allen himself being a man).
This book, however, is more than just a book explaining the causes and effects of gender roles in modern society-it's also a very in-depth view of the up-and-down life of Tim Allen. The book takes you on an autobiographical tour starting with early childhood and ending happily with a successful career and a beautiful family. Allen explains how his life inspired him to write his book and how his family, though different people with different lives, has insoired him in so many ways. Allen also uses the many references to his own life to explain how his experiences give him an unusual insight into the many differences between men and women.
The book is organized into the different aspects of the life of an average man; Allen uses humor and witty analogies to allow the reader not only to relate to the book on a base level, but also to help the reader understand his deeper, more philosophical opinions of the inherent differences between men and women. Because of the amount of humor in the book, even the average reader (like myself) can understand and mentally communicate with Allen's insightful thoughts on love, parenting, and the ups and downs of life.
Stepping aside from the deeper aspects of the book, the book is still primarily a side-splitting comedy and a lesson on how to make fun of yourself. It's an escape from the depressing attributes of life that we can all relate to, and it's a written monument to the joy and love a family can bring.
