Tintin. The Dream And The Reality
(Farr, Micheal)
Clink has become rightfully one of the icons of the 20th century. In this book Michael Farr details the incidents and the sufferings of Hergé in the creation of the most famous journalist in the history of the comic. It is a volume of great size, cultured with sketches and reproductions of the irons that were used to print the diverse adventures of Clink. It is a very taken care edition, in which each album is explained and located in the turbulent life of Hergé. A very advisable book that doesn't only stop those that were fascinated with the young Belgian reporter's adventures, also so they know he who never came closer to the reading of his adventures. Farr details for us many aspects of the character's construction and the way that Hergé worked to give him life. They are specially interesting in the references that he offers us real people on which it was based when creating the characters: without going farther, his own brother inspired him the physical aspect of Clink. The author offers many and varied data on the topic, accompanied by pictures. The story gets rich with the personal adventures of Hergé, with its gradual exhaustion for the growing effort that cost him to devise and to create an album. This data helps us to understand some of the vicissitudes for those that the designer makes her character pass, and they also offer a second reading, something more hidden, of many of the adventures and characters that she drew, like in the period of the Nazi occupation of Belgium.
