As a classic of Chinese ancient literature, 'Zuo Zhuan' had long been coupled with another literature of its kind 'Chun Qiu'. The couple are known as 'Chun Qiu Zuo Shi Zhuan' or abbreviatedly known as 'Zuo Zhuan'. It served the function of elaborating its precedent literatures. Besides, this ancient text is also grouped with 'Chun Qiu Gong Yang Zhuan', 'Chun Qiu Gu Liang Zhuan'. The triad is known as 'Chun Qiu San Zhuan'. However, 'Zuo Zhuan' is actually an independently-written historical literature. Its historical time frame is similar to that of 'Chun Qiu' with the exception that it is 17 years longer than the latter. Moreover, its structure is different from that of 'Chun Qiu'. 'Zuo Zhuan' had recorded, in a very systematic and concrete manner, many prominent events occured during the time frame. These include the politics, militaries, diplomacies etc of the time. 'Zuo Zhuan' has a vivid political and moral tendency. It's more on the side of Confucianism, emphasizing rank order, clanlaw ethic, filial piety and care for the youngs, shedding light on the people-based ideology.
