The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
(Douglas Adams)
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams, is an outrageously humorous and trippy tour of the cosmos as seen through they eyes of befuddled Earth Man, Arthur Dent, on his first journey off-world. This book enjoyed a sizable cult following throughout the 1980's. Its various incarnations included a radio adaptation, a television series and, most recently, a big budgeted Hollywood movie. None of these renditions successfully captured the imaginatively offbeat 'spirit' of the novel. Clever yet silly, light yet thought provoking, this irreverant, unique piece of fiction has carved a place for itself in modern popular culture. Perfect summer reading, as are its four sequels Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life, the Universe, and Everything, So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, and Mostly Harmless.
