The Lord Of The Rings:the Fellowship Of The Ring
(J.R.R. Tolkien)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Written by J.R.R. Tolkien Abstract by Brett A. Hawkins This first installment of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, takes place 50 years after J.R.R. Tolkien's first fantasy book, "The Hobbit" . This three part epic, (and now a motion picture trilogy) is an expansion of "The Hobbit" and has several characters from the first book. Frodo Baggins, the nephew of the hero of "The Hobbit", Bilbo Baggins, was once again thrust into adventure by none other than everyone's favorite wizard, Gandalf. Instead of searching for treasure as Uncle Bilbo did, he is now on a quest to save Middle Earth from falling under the control of the Dark Lord Sauron. Have no fear, in this tale, Bilbo is accompanied by 8 other companions of several different races of Middle Earth. Yet only Frodo has the willpower to save not only his race, but all the peoples of Middle Earth. J.R.R. Tolkien's writing style seemed to have changed slightly from his first book. "The Hobbit" was written for people of all ages, here he appears to have departed from that style and writes at a much higher intellectual level. As with Mr. Tolkien's earlier work, this book can be very addictive, and almost impossible to put down, be prepared for many plot twists and turns, including the eventual dpearture of Frodo and his best friend Samwise Gamgee. Remember, in Middle Earth, things aren't always as they seem...and Hobbits, of all of creations creatures, just might be the ones who surprise you the most.
