The War Of The Worlds

I think War of the Worlds is one of H.G. Wells' best known works, in my eyes at least it is his best. Metereorites fall down, the turn out not to be metereorites at all... Suddenly the earth is attacked by creatures from outer space, creatures that have been observin humanity for a long time and believe me, they haven't come with peaceful intentions. From the start a large part of humanity is destroyed, especially because people don't immediately understand what's happening. But as his human nature (fortunately in this case) he rebels and hits back hard. The problem with this is that the creatures are totally unknown to us, how do you destroy something you don;t know? The book War of the Worlds contains suspense from beginning to end, it holds your attention from the first page to the last one.
If you like hard science fiction, you will really enjoy this.
A film has been made of it in 2005, with Tom Cruise.
