Using his long-time self-education, he decided to take his knowlegde on the road and share it with others. He know is a lecturer and conducts seminars on the subject of working with people. He communicates to the reader that time we spend with others is valuable and should be utilized to the fullest. This book describes how to observe and relate to those we wish to interact with. If you're in sales, or applying for a job, or just want to introduce yourself to that new prospective love; this book shows you important insights to "making that first impression" and following through to seal the much desired connection with someone. The author emphasizes observational techniques as well as using simple body language to communicate their sincerity and interest. He helps us to discover the attributes and giftings that each one of us possesses and how to harness them into providing a better life for ourselves and others. He points out that connecting with others is very important for innumerable reasons, if only, for our health alone. For this reason, it is best that we try to do whatever we can to constantly improve our relational skills even if we don't particularly want to. He has introduced us to NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) in his outlines which has been utilized since the late '70's. We are taken from the very first introduction to someone you may never have met before, to the listening and observing of the individual you are meeting. The best part of this whole thing is the fact that you can use these skills with everyone. You can enhance your relationship with your spouse, parents and especially your children. This book opens up a whole new world; most of us weren't even aware existed. We are introduced to ourselves, our likes, our dislikes, our habits, and basically; who we really are. When equipped with these fundamental internal ideals, we can make the kinds of decisions that are most important in our daily and personal lives. Nicholas Boothman shows us what words we habitually use, the clothing we have a tendancy to pick out for ourselves to wear, to even the kind of furniture we like to buy for our homes and why we do so. We all have reasons for why we do what we do and it is when one realizes that there are reasons behind our choices, we have a better understanding for one another and can therefore better communicate with each other. Our eyes are the "windows to the soul", as the Bible says; and Nicholas shows us how people use their eyes to reflect their thinking processes and decision-making. He tells the touching story of how a tearful father who came to him after one of his seminars. The father related to Nick his strained relationship with his son. The father was always on the boy's case, telling him to "Look at me when I'm talking to you!" Little did he know at the time, the son was only looking away because he was "thinking" about what the father was saying. The eyes are what gave it away. The father then regretted his barking at his son. How many of us grew up hearing that from our parents, not knowing how best to respond! We are impressed with the fact that all of this takes quite a lot of practice. For Nicholas, he practiced for years and years before he became an expert at it, finding rewards in the multi-million dollar businessesrked for.
