Most effective, instead, it is the yield of the personages and their relations: it is those most static ones, like the father of Philip, champion of the love for the freedoms and of the pride of being city Americans, it is those most dynamic ones, as an example the brother of Philip, Sandy, and the cousins Alvin, Winchell journalist, than, through the pages, evolvono, transforming itself in answer to the events.

At last, we emphasize that the impossibility to draw easy analogies between the vicissitudes of the novel and the political present time is a clear sign of the goodness of the approach of the author to the topic.
