Harry Potter faces expulsion from Hogwarts for breaking the law for restriction of underage wizardry, when he fights off Dementors to save himself and his cousin, Dudley. He is pardoned when Dumbledore appears on his behalf during his hearing before the Ministry of Magic and saves the day. Harry is extremely frustrated on being kept in the dark about news regarding Voldemort and his followers and vents out his anger on friends and enemies alike. The Ministry does not want to accept that Voldemort is back and try to discredit both Harry and Dumbledore. A Ministry official, Dolores Umbridge, is appointed as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and she wastes no time interfering in school matters, going on to become the Hogwarts High Inquisitor, and making life hell for both the staff and the students. Harry and his friends are under a lot of pressure as they face their Ordinary Wizarding Level exams (OWLs) this year. They also start a new rebel group, where Harry teaches Defence to his fellow students. Harry suffers the pangs of adolescence during his failed relation with Cho Chang. He endlessly dreams about long corridors and closed doors. When Dumbledore realizes that he is gaining access to Voldemort?s thoughts and moods and that the reverse could also be possible, he is asked to close his mind by taking Occlumency lessons with Snape. But Harry fails in his attempt, causing Voldemort to plant a false event in his mind, making Harry rush to the Department of Mysteries to retrieve a prophecy, which Voldemort desires. In the gripping climax, there is a duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort and also the death of one of the major characters. Dumbledore tells Harry about the prophecy and the true facts, which he had been holding back from him.
In the fifth book of the series, Rowling gives the readers a mix of mystery, suspense and magic. She builds up the pace throughout the book, culminating in a fantastic finale, which leaves us asking for more from this phenomenal storyteller.
