EMS results reconfirm CNN as no. 1 International news channel





The Winter 2005 EMS (European Media & Marketing Survey) has seen CNN reconfirm its position as the channel of choice among Europe?s elite. The EMS Regular (top 15%) research sees the network continue to rank number one among all international news channels on a daily, weekly and monthly basis ? with a reach of 5.4%, 19.0%, 34.5% respectively ? and show increases year-on-year on all the measures.

Within the top demographic of the EMS Select (top 3%) universe, CNN remains the leading television news provider for ?global citizens? ? a core target audience of top managers, frequent travellers (six or more air trips) or high income earners on more than ?80,000 a year ? with 13 percentage point lead in monthly reach over its nearest competitor.

?CNN has consolidated its position as the channel of choice for the critical demographic of the upscale viewer or ?global citizen?. The more upscale the audience, the stronger the affinity they demonstrate for CNN over other international news channels,? said Jonathan Davies, Senior Vice President advertising sales for CNN Europe, Middle East and Africa.

CNN also was named recently the leading news brand for the world's most senior corporate and financial decision makers by the Global Capital Markets Survey, conducted by Objective Research.

EMS is the European Media & Marketing Survey released twice a year by the Dutch research consultancy INTERVIEW*NSS in 16 European countries. EMS is a survey of media consumption and lifestyles among the main income earners in the top 20% of households by household income. The EMS universe comprises 40 million adults aged 21 years and above. Fieldwork for EMS Winter 2005 covered the period of June 04 and May 05.

EMS Select surveys the top 3% of the European population, comprising adults 21 years and older ? a universe of 8,274,000 individuals who meet at least one of the following criteria: top managers; frequent flyers with six or more international business air trips a year; high income earners with gross personal income of ?80,000 or more a year, with the same fieldwork period and country spread as EMS.
