How The World Works (and What Jesus Does Through Us To Overcome It)

How the World Works (and What Jesus Does Through Us to Overcome It) is divided in two parts. The first part is Prose for the Mind and the second part is Poems for the Heart. As the title suggests, this book explores what the world lays on us from a Christ centered perspective. This means that when we rely on Him, we will never be entrapped by it nor any fleshly attributes we may choose to use simply because we?ve always used them before (even though, in the long run, they have not worked).

Fleshly traits discussed in the prose section are carnal anger, hate, and carnal love. The book is sprinkled with short anecdotes illustrating our nature and God?s creative solutions to it. Some of the anecdotes follow:

The Cat Came Back: An article discussing the ramifications in the true story of a cat who traveled thousands of miles to his owner?s new home. The cat, however, had never been to this home. How did the cat find that home? Will God guide us to our eternal home as surely?

Lost in Love: A little girl gets on the wrong school bus, then gets off in a strange neighborhood, somehow slipping through the cracks of the school?s security process. A carpenter working on the roof of a house nearby, helps rescue her. Have we, too, slipped through God?s security system to reside in a world that is not our home? Can a Carpenter save us?

The Pedestrian Overpass: The author was feeling blue, down and he took a walk across a local school?s parking lot and found a pedestrian overpass where he felt he could forlornly watch the cars and their passengers traveling underneath him. Wow, was he surprised when waves of love from them almost knocked him off his feet, wiping away his blues.

Mother: A young man is very disappointed in his mother. As Mother?s Day is rolling around, he thinks, certainly there is no card that expresses how he feels about her and how often he feels his mom has failed him. For a reason he cannot explain, however, he buys a card that expresses wonderful, loving sentiments and gives it to her. She breaks down in tears, never dreaming that he thought of her this way. Subsequently, she succeeds in living up to those positive and loving sentiments, changing their relationship forever.

The poetry that follows the prose is a mixture of free-verse and rhyming. 45 poems that speak of a deep, deep love for God. Some of the poems? titles are:

Just Crackers and Grape Juice?
I Am He

Give Your Art to Jesus
No Thank You, Dear, You Go
How Can You Tell a Babe in the Womb?
