The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
(Douglas Adams)

Publicidade
Innovative, irrational and entirely unique. These are but a few of the thousands of superlatives nessecary to describe Douglas Adam's masterful work. I'm compelled to say that this review is doomed to fall short of the mark as nothing would be enough of a testament to this fantastic author. His quirky style of writing, his satirical reflection of life on a grand scale, his legacy left behind in the Hitchhiker's series will forever live on in the minds of those lucky enough to have read any of his books. But we'll start with the first of the lot, The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. A fine array of characters epitomises his story-telling technique in such a fashion as to leave you holding your sides, the laughter almost becomes unbearable (Note: Do not read in public unless you enjoy getting funny looks). We have the clueless, monotonous but highly entertaining Arthur Dent. The bizarre, oblivious Ford Prefect. The lovely Trillian (Tricia McMillan to those who knew her on earth). And the schizophrenic, two-headed egomaniac that is Zaphod Beeblebrox. The adventure kicks off when earth is blown up to make way for an interstellar highway, that's right, a highway. Our friends Arthur and Ford find themselves jetting around space in a stolen spaceship, obtained by Zaphod, powered entirely by probability, of course leading to the randomness that Adams manipulates so well. Their encounters of the strange kind are fantastically documented and it's a blow to the soul when that book finally has to be put down. But wait, there are sequels! Next stop; Restaurant At The End Of The Universe.
