There is Lagardere of course, mythical hero like Dartagnan; there is the character of Uneven whose bump was used as desk to the speculators of Regency; there is the currency: ?If you do not go to Lagardere, Lagardere will go to you?; there are the two hired killers Cocardasse and Passepoil? One does not know what made more for popularity of the Novel which was never contradicted since its publication in serial in the Century in 1857.
History:
Beautiful Lagardere, one of the expert swordsmen of Paris, prorogued in duel the duke of Nevers, in order to rub to him the secrecy of her frightening boot.
But the cousin of the duke, perfidious Gonzague, recruited mercenaries to get rid of his powerful relative and to be able to marry the beautiful and fortunate Blanche of Caylus with which Nevers is in secret union with her.
White, having a presentiment of a danger to her husband, their child entrusts to Lagardere by taking him for the duke. since this moment, Lagardere becomes the ally of Nevers. The two men fight the mercenaries together, but Nevers perishes during the lute . Lagardere then swears to avenge it and kill all the culprits one by one. It flees with the child.
Twenty years later, the child became one charming girl, in age to be sensitive to the charm of his guard. But its future is threatened by the intrigues of Gonzague.
At this point appears one mysterious and uneven old man.
This blazing cloak and dagger novel puts in scene tasty and high characters of color, under Regency, in an intrigue full with bounces.
