The Fisherman And The Goldfish
(Beata Krupska, t?um. Zona)
The life of a fisherman living at the side of a lake was pretty boring: he used to catch fish, he sold them, bought food, came home, had dinner, later supper and went to bed. Till the day he caught the Goldfish. He sailed out early in the morning, cast the net a few times, finally he caught one little goldfish. When he asked if she wasn't gold-plated, she was angry. He took it home and put it in a large jar. He gave it some food and the Goldfish offered to make three of his wishes come true if he let it free. The fisherman said that he had no wishes. The next day when he sailed on the lake, the Goldfish changed into a princess, cleaned his cottage and cooked dinner and ...came back to the jar. The fisherman noticed all of the changes. When the Goldfish asked him whethr he liked the dinner, he answered in a boorish manner it was not its business. The Goldfish was a bit worried. She had to find a way to marry the Fisherman as only then the spell could be removed on her. In the morning the Goldfish prepared breakfast and worked in the garden. Again the fisherman pretended he didn't notice anything. When he returned home in the evening, the cottage was beautifully decorated, the sheer curtains ironed, and on the table there was a freshly baked plum cake. The fisherman asked the Goldfish to bake a cheese cake the next day because he didn't like cheese. She started to cry and told him she was going to do it if he would marry her. So the fisherman came up to the Goldfish and kissed her on her snout. He changed into a handsome prince, the cottage became a wonderful palace. It turned out that it was a Witch from the Cave (called also the Big-Bellied Witch) changed him into a surly fisherman, and the princess into a goldfish. They decided to get married. If they hadn't done so, they would have still been a fisherman and a goldfish. They they lived happily ever after as it always is in fairy tales.
