"Aawan" novel by Chitra Mudgal created ripples in Hindi literary circles . Having bold depidition of exploitation of a young girl by those who were powerful in terms of money or labour union , it has been bold enough to uncover both the capitalist and the so called leaders claming to stand for the oppressed.The protagonist or the young girl not only represents the women or female exploitations but society as a whole.It reveals the oppressive system from the level of family to the working environments.This novel exposes all kind of politics starting from the body politics,the power politics, the capitalistic commodification to the labour union.
It is an eyeopener for the society who seems to be hypnotised by the glittery images thrown into lives with no choices, as it covers the girls voyage through odds from labour union office to modelling and later tricked into surrogate motherhood in name of love.
