Journey to the centre of the earth

Journey to the centre of the earth is an exciting novel written by Jules Verne. Harry is a fatherless child who is well acquainted by his German uncle Professor Von Hardwigg. Both of them were good friends and he had invited Harry to study under him. Hardwigg was a very learned and hardworking man. He studied, he consumed the midnight oil, and he pored over heavy tomes, and digested huge quartos and folios in order to keep the knowledge acquired to himself. Harry?s likes matched with his and he too was interested in mineralogy to all the other sciences. Harry?s anxiety was to gain real knowledge of the earth. Geology and mineralogy were to them the sole objects of life, and in connection with these studies many a fair specimen of stone, chalk, or metal did they break with their hammers. One day he called Harry to announce that he had discovered something special and unusual. When he came Hardwigg had a piece of parchment with him. He showed this to Harry if he could make something out of it.
Both of them started to decipher it. Lastly Hardwigg successfully found out its meaning: It gave a way to find the route to the centre of the earth. It said: Descend into the crater of Yocul of Sneffels, which the shade of Scartaris caresses, before the kalends of July, audacious traveler, and you will reach the center of the earth.
Hardwigg made calculations out of this and set out with Harry for a journey. They began their voyage towards Iceland, as according to the map the island was full of volcanoes. Yocul meant glacier in Icelandic, Sneffels- a mountain about five thousand feet in height and the rest meant end of the month of June, the shadow of Mount Scartaris falls upon the one crater. There they befriended Hans Bjelke, who would accompany them. Then they made their final preparations for their journey. They climb mountains, cross several hurdles and meet all sorts of miseries in the cold and they reach Mount Sneffels. They climb the mountain. They go down through its vent. They go deeper and deeper miss the right path. They correct the path again and resume their journey again. Harry gets lost during the journey once yet he somehow manages to get along with others. They find themselves in a sea after sometime and launch a raft. They continue their journey with the raft. Here they encounter a prehistoric animal. Also they encounter a geyser. They make several discoveries hidden from the external world. Lastly they reach the centre of the earth. From here they reverse their direction but to their surprise in the end they find that they had reached the center of the Mediterranean. It meant that they had gone through one volcano and come out from another which meant they started their journey from one end of the world and reached the other.
