Sweetheart, The Diary Of A Boy
(Edmundo de Amicis)

Publicidade
This is a book full of tenderness which shows us a world as seen through the eyes of a child. It shows everything from the necessary to the accidental, good values, customs and the love that one must have for others. This is a work which reflects a great human quality, a hugely famous book read across the world. It narrates, in the form of a diary, the life of a boy who, day by day, experiences what it is like to grow up. His experiences make him begin to mature and reflect on his actions. Human values and the moral quality of the characters (mentioned above) stand out, and we are transported to a world which, believe me, it is difficult to leave. Pencils, pens, classes, school and all that accompanies him through his childhood, the need to find solutions to problems which affect him as much as his environment. Various stories told by his teacher (called 'Monthly tales') show us even more the real value of the meaning of life. The most emotional aspect of the book is the way in which Edmundo de Amicis employs text in the form of letters from his father, his mother, his teachers and his sister, showing how they teach him ethical, moral and social values. I would go as far as to say that it is one of the few works that is worth reading nowadays because for children and adults alike it offers lessons, values and feeling that they otherwise would never explore. Edmundo de Amicis leaves us once again with a good taste in our mouths with his novel full of sentimental idealism that reveals his good intentions towards society.
