Introduction
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the fifth book in the proposed seven book series tracing the story of young wizarding hero Harry Potter.

The Order of the Phoenix
Normalcy returns from the Goblet of Fire, where the story unusually started at Riddle house rather than the Dursley house.

This book starts at the Dursleys, with the usual Harry- Dursley conflicts. But, this time Harry and Dursley have a deadly visitor - Dementors. Harry and Dursley survive, but Harry's use of magic in front of muggles lands him in trouble again.

Suddenly, things start happening real quick. Harry is summoned by the Order of Phoenix to its secret headquarters where Harry meets all his loyal friends including Godfather Sirius, Dumbledore and the Weasleys. Harry discovers that the Order is formed to take on the fit
again evil Lord Voldemort. So is this game over for Voldemort?

Not necessarily. The wizarding world is in a turmoil. The Ministry of Magic takes a stubborn stand against Harry and Dumbledore's views on Voldemort. So now the wizarding world is torn apart into three worlds - The Evil World of Lord Voldemort, The Order of the Phoenix and the
believers of Ministry of Magic. So while the Order of Phoenix and the Ministry of Magic are having their little disputes growing to bigger ones, Lord Voldemort begins to reassemble his evil team penetrating all the wizarding departments with his loyalists.

But, Dumbledore is not asleep, he goes about getting the support of the Giants and other close cousins of Wizards. For this he sends Rubeus Hagrid to forge an alliance with Giants which is a tricky issue.

The story now plunges headlong into the revelation of one after the other the army of Voldemort and leads to a fantastic climax where the Army of Voldemort meets the Order of Phoenix in a straight duel. For the first time we see Dumbledore kick some series butts. But, things
then turn gory as JK Rowling fulfills her word and kills one of the key characters in Harry's world. Psst! I am not revealing the name :).

So who won the second war of the wizards? Did Hagrid's mission succeed? Did the giants arrive in time? Who got killed? Who are in Voldemort's army and who are with Dumbledore? Did the Ministry of Magic finally wake up to reality or not? Check out this pulsating novel to
find answers to these questions.

Book Dissection
HP and OOP is one of the most hyped books of the recent years. The hype got raised further by JK Rowling's claim that one central character meets his doom in this novel. To tell the truth the novel was worth the hype. I could not keep it for a moment once I started reading it.

The novel is much darker and the plot is much thicker. I doubt whether younger children who loved the earlier Potter novels, would be able to make much of this one. This one is certainly for the slightly more mature audience. Of course, when the movie for this book is released children might like the climax war scene.

This novel is well paced and like the previous Potter novels have all the magical aspects of the previous novels. But, what this one adds is that it starts to look at a deeper level the wizarding society. I thought that with the 'Goblet of Fire' itself JK Rowling had started to widen the scope of the wizarding world with the introduction of other wizarding cultures. In this novel, she has gone one step ahead and included close cousins of wizards like the giants. Also, there is more details of the Wizarding society, the Ministry of Magic and the number of characters coming into limelight is increasing.

In the 'Goblet of Fire' JK Rowling had delved deeper into Harry's and Ron's relationship with Hermione. In this novel, these relationships are pushed to the background, in light of the danger lurking around. Also, Harry's character also seems to be getting more and more irritative and anger seems to be consuming him. At this rend of the s, Harry might end up as the next Lord Voldemort, himself.

One more interesting aspect explored in this novel is a family feud brewing in the Weasleys with Percy Weasley acting on the Ministry of Magic's side while the rest of the family are with Dumbledore.

The amount of darkness in this book has really put off a few people, but looking at the way the whole series has developed, this was coming. For all the fear wizards have of Voldemort, JK Rowling can't make Harry swish a wand with a smile and Voldemort dies. That would make it a ridiculously childish book. So as far as I am concerned, this series is heading the right way.

All in all this sets up the next couple of novels up very nicely. Can't wait for them to launch.
