Richard Herman Jnr. has captured the essence of the fighter pilot during World War ll as well as the top guns in the modern airforce, in this novel which is one of an ongoing series. The author draws on his own service experiences in the US Air Force which gives the characters in the novel authenticity. The story is split between wartime Britain and present day USA and draws on parallels between Pontowski's World War ll experiences as a pilot and the present day as President of the USA . The prologue to the story is set in 1942 at RAF Church Fenton, England with Matthew Zachary Pontowski and his navigator, Andrew Ruffium flying missions deep into enemy territory. It changes to the present day to the Andaman Sea between India and Malaysia where two couples and their crew of two, were sailing. Their boat is boardered by pirates who kill the captain and rape and kidnap the others. One of the girls reveals that she is Heather Courtland, daughter of USA Senator, William Courtland. The story begins with Zach Pontowski, who is now President of the USA, being wakened at 3.32 am with the news of the kidnap. He phones Senator Courtland and tells him of his daughter's position. Senator Courtland, who is in bed with a very young girl, is annoyed that his daughter should be in trouble again. Senator Courtland rang Troy Spencer's father to tell him of their children's predicament. His thoughts reveal that he holds Zach Pontowski in contempt and has ambitions to be President himself. He later tries to use his daughter's misfortune to further his political ambitions.The story focuses on the attempted rescue by Delta Force and draws parallels between Pontowski's World War ll expeiences and the present day high risk rescue mission.
