The Snow Leopard
(Peter Matthiessen)

Publicidade
An account of the author's journey, with the biologist George Schaller, to the Dolpo region of the Tibetan Plateau. Schaller's primary reason for making the 250 mile trek is to study the Himalayan blue sheep, and both men are intrigued by the possibility of laying eyes upon the snow leopard, a big cat so rare and elusive that it seems almost mythic. But for Matthiessen, as a student of Zen Buddhism, the journey is as rigorous spiritually as it is physically. In the impossibly remote, high-altitude wilderness of the Himalaya, he confronts the recent death of his wife, and at every turn struggles to let go of his defenses and desires, his clinging to worldly life. Matthiessen, Schaller, and their precocious sherpas and porters are fine companions on this strange literary voyage, and neither they nor the reader will come down from those frozen heights unchanged.
