Possibility Of An Island
(Michel Houellebecq)

Publicidade
To be oneself but at the present time, to be a copy of oneself only
happens in books. Michel Houellebecq focuses on this topic after having
written "Plateforme" correctly placed in the epoch's context so much
"la possibilité d'une île" (the possibility of an island) largely
exceeds him in the style and the voiceless art.
Daniel is like those Michel from Houellebecq other's books, a kind
of successful looser, a mediocre man who knows himself sufficiently to
justify its mediocrity and to be aware of, public entertainer of
sketches reporting the unique experiments of two "palestinian
sex-party's girls".
Daniel fonds in love only two times in its bitch of life where
nothing is really to retain, more exactly once really but death watches
for all that makes the recreation of its life, like his joyless
reflection. Only sex can bring some interest, and this search for sex
goes well beyond the love whereas he would like to understand so much
the meaning of being loved and to love.
However, this account of a minable life is read and read again by
its direct descendants, its clones, Daniel24 and Daniel25, the former
not having found, in its futur where total indifference is sufficient
to make peace on Earth, the latter leaves, quits the city of
indifference, human beings are savages in the neighbourhoods. Always.
Maybe to be able to understand love, and to understand what those three
Daniel can't express correctly, it is sufficient to imagine somewhere,
over there, the possibility of an island.
In turn funny, alarming, sarcastic, funny, unbearable, the book
erases the last error of the previous, which seemed really indigestible
and finally few things compared to it, in a writing applied, and what
Michel Houellebecq can make of better :
However, it is impossible not to be touched per as much class and
intelligence by an author who manages to transform repugnant characters
into beings of light who seek and who perhaps, on the desire of an
island, finds. Love in bottom. With the need for the absurdity. A
strange softness lives this book, hidden, certainly uncontrolled by
Houellebecq. This book has a heart, goes as an equilibrist on cynicism
and the pure love, on behalf of Houellebecq not only that really made
pleasure but that also made "POSSIBILITY OF AN ISLAND" its best book.
The gag of the lives becomes another extensive, and to play with all
the possible degrees to fall down in a pure emotion without cynicism,
easy sentences, anything other that this need for truth which makes of
this book a dark experiment but close friend, renvoit in the search of
an initial writer, to write is a little to leave to research the
possibility of an island and to thus risk, nothing to find except
oneself. This upsetting intimate experiment above suspicion at the
beginning, written by an author who does not seek of anything to be
made adulate his readers (thing who is increasingly rare) thus leads to
infinite possibilities, when well even one would be close accepting the
thing, to stop indeed reproaching Houellebecq its so-called direction
marketing. The writers are tracked said the other. Those which are
applauded always do not bring something. However is Daniel25 finds a
portion of this island somewhere, while passing the remainder of its
time (an about sixty years to living) to swim, and to benefit from the
climate, but really the end of all? FILIPE LOURENCO
