The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari
(Robin S Sharma)
The book tells us all about how a highly successful lawyer, Julian, is beaten down by his out of control lifestyle, which includes long working hours, bad eating habits and lack of exercise. The culmination of all this is a massive heart attack which he miraculously survives and sets out into the Himalayas, renouncing his professional life, in quest of the knowledge to lead a richer and more fulfilling & healthier life. He returns one day to meet his former friend and business partner, with the intention of sharing his learning with him. His changed appearance and infectious enthusiasm for life makes his friend sit up and absorb all that he has to impart. Julian has a few tips to offer which will help enrich our lives : 1) Heart of the Rose technique : A type of meditation technique in which early in the morning, you sit with a red rose. Close your eyes and feel the rose. Imagine the colour, smell and texture of the rose. This will improve concentration, creativity & memory 2) Reflection : Go to a still lake early in the morning. Look into the deep still waters and imagine that the reflection you see is the one of you who has achieved your dreams and ambitions. This will help you keep your dreams alive 3) Laugh : Go through a session of laughter therapy everyday. Laugh loud and long. This will help improve your lung power as well as pave the way for a humorous and even tempered day 4) Shed negative thoughts : Our brain is capable of holding onto only one thought at a time. Become aware of your thoughts. Ensure that you always think good and positive thoughts. Punish yourself if you catch yourself allowing negative thoughts to pass through 5) Moderation in everything : Eat, drink in moderation. Excess of anything is not good for the body and mind. 6) Monitor yourself : At the end of each day, spend some time going over the day and analyzing your actions Julian entreats that whatever he has learnt should be passed onto to others to enrich other lives. Julian also assures us that all this which he has learnt from the sages in the Himalayas will help us lead a longer, more youthful and enriched life.
