Life Of Pi
(Yann Martel)
This book was recommended by someone who told me it was the best book they had ever read and I know a lot of people like it........However, I thought it was terrible! Nothing really happens until right at the end and so I found myself trawling through it, just waiting for something to happen. The first two thirds of the story are like a build up to the events but fail to really hold the reader's interest. They are more like speckled memories of a young boy's search for religion. He is unusual in the fact that he becomes a Hindu, a Christian AND a Muslim and indeed some of the rhetoric is very good but not when you're expecting a gripping story. The action comes later when the boy finds himself shipwrecked at sea alongside a tiger, zebra, hyena and an orangutan. An interesting idea but not really worth reading. Sorry!
