Know to history as the 100 yeares war,the long struggle between England and Franchstarted in 1338, with brief truces,was not to end until 1453. The king of Englandwer also hereditarydukes at Aquitaine and ofr two centuries had paid homage toking of france for this duchy, an act they resented things come to a head when Philip vi of france town over Edward IIIs land in france and ws begins. The first major encounter was a naval battle in 1340 when twohundred and fifty English ships fought an French fleet at the mouth of river sluys and at end of the day twenty four French ships escaped.
