Finding a way A simple,charming story abour working together tomake a difference,chuskit Goes to School is a story about inclusin that says allit takes togive the disabled rights is a little bit of thought and a lot of will. Nine-Year ?old chuskit longs to go to school- to wear a uniform,sing songs,learn her tables and just be like other childredn her age. But the trouble is she?s in a wheelchair and while she can get around the house unaided,the path to the scholl in rocky and there ia no bridge across the stream that the children cross by hopping from stone tostone. So while her little brother and cousins head off to school every day,she watches wistfully and spends her time drawing and sewing,one day,though,her friend Abdul decides to dosomething about it and soon involves the whole school ina project to get Chuskit to school. Author Sujatha Padmanabhan?s language is simple and easy to read, and the illustratins by Madhuvanti Anantharajan are realistic and full of character. The story and the illustratins give the briefest of glimpses into life ina little village in Ladakh. The book, which has no copyright and can be reproduced to raise awareness, has been brought out by the Namgyal Institute for people with Disabilities and is based on true incidents in villages there.
