Lord Of The Flies
(William Golding)
As the result of a dramatic plane crash a group of boys find themselves stranded on a desert island with no adults in sight. They soon realise that although this may seem like paradise order will need to be maintained and blond haired blue eyed Ralph is quickly accepted as the leader by all or so it seems. Soon the careful constructed order that has been established begins to descend into anarchy with the help of dissenters within the group led by Jack. As chaos begins to reign all hope of survival seems to fade.. A timeless classic that still has as much relevance today as it did in the 1950s, Golding's powerful use of descriptive writing allows you to imagine the island and indeed the boys in great detail. A novel that can be enjoyed on many levels from leisurely reading to in-depth study as part of a curriculum.
