The Witches
(Roald Dahl)

Publicidade
'The Witches', one of my scarriest childhood memories. Roald Dahl is able to create such characters so unlike that out of the ordinary, some of which are almost dream like and unreal. 'The Witches' obtained characteristics which could send shivers down childrens spines, the witches in the story were described as hidious, bald, toeless, evil women who would kidnap children and either murder or banish them. This was told to a young girl in the story by her grandmother, these two had a vacation together in which they encounted the witches once at the same dsetination to hold their annual witches counsil. The morbid and discusting plans the witches had shocked the young girl whom over heard them when hiding in the room of the meeting and decides she must do something about it before their plan can be put into action!! The story is ideal for a family to read, though maybe not suitable for young children for the story suggests violence agianst children from these characters which have been described in such a mannor its terrifying, yet believable. Though like all fairy tales it ends with a happy ending, the young girl finds bravery within herself, friends and a respect for her family, the witches are taken care of and of coarse in true fairytale tradition 'every one lives happily ever after'. The book seems a mixture of genre's, for it contains fantasy, as well as humour, minor horror, and also family, it convers alot of angles which makes it even more enjoyable. Roald dahl is most definately a talented man, his stories are remarkable and rememerable, and some of i which i personaly believe could change the way in which one percieve's life.
