The Power of Positive thinking - Chapter 2 Increase feel good time What is there more important than to be happy? The purpose of life is to be happy. To achieve this you need to make a conscious decision to be happy. One way to feel happy is by making someone else happy every day. You may sacrifice your side in an argument with your spouse. Is not that wonderful, you have chosen to be happy and avoided the ill feelings of arguing. Know that it is not good to be down. Speak and act as if everything you do were a genuine pleasure. Can you increase your feel good time, by reducing your feel bad time? Yes, There are three moods you can be, Positive, negative or neutral. By not being negative you chose to be neutral or positive. You can avoid repulsing an insult, and chose to be neutral to begin with. You can avoid harassing your friend and start becoming more friendly. Life is great , make the most of it! It pays to be an optimist. Response to Stimuli You have got an input set, output set and a processing pattern. Your input set includes what you hear, what you see, what you feel by touch and all other sensory inputs. Your output set includes what you act, what you talk verbally or non verbally. For a stimuli you process and decide an output response. You chose your response in your processing time. You decide your processing time, you decide your response, you may decide your inputs too. You may chose to see TV, hear music, read paper, talk to a friend, go to tour or change job. When your processing is positive, your outputs are positive, giving you more positive inputs. When your processing is negative, your outputs are negative, giving you more negative inputs. Say, A new person of opposite sex, says Hi to you. You may feel very happy and reply her positively. You are boosting your happiness, self confidence and self esteem. You may feel intrigued at being contacted by someone so more handsome than you. You may reply indifferently hiding your jealousy. You are boosting a negative self image. Though the event was that of a person , very attractive, contacting you, you chose the way the dialog continued. I am illustrating this example, to say that there is no Positive or Negative event, you chose the event as positive or negative. OK. Let us see, When your wife scolds you for not loving her. You can see the want for love in her anger and really love her. By showering love on your wife, you can create a positive atmosphere. You can take the scolding as an insult and start fighting her. You will make more negative moments by such quarrels.
