French Women Don't Get Fat
(Mireille Guiliano)
A statement that cannot be argued if one has ever been to France! This is part cookery book and part autobiography and is written in the most disarmingly charming manner possible, the sub title says it all really, 'The Secret of Eating for Pleasure'! A pleasure to read and the easiest of recipes to follow, her grilled chicken breast marinated in olive oil, rosemary and garlic is out of this world and will lure you into the undeniable pleasures of healthy eating. Follow with her fresh grilled peaches, soaked in honey and sprigs of lemon balm and you are in seventh heaven. All this and you will also lose weight! Guiliano takes the guilt out of eating and the shame out of wanting to be a couple of dress sizes smaller without knowing how! Also refreshingly pleasing is that she says you may go to the gym, but only if you feel that you really have to, apparently it is not an obsession French women have and certainly not essential for the shedding of excess pounds. All in all this is a delightful little book charting the author's personal battle with her weight as a teenager and following her into her confident later years. We must count ourselves eternally lucky that she has decided to share the secrets of her French lifestyle with us. Guiliano allows us the luxury of eating chocolate and drinking champagne in the most stylish of manners, without letting our dress sizes grow with our pleasures!
