Less Than Zero
(Bret Easton Ellis)
Less Than Zero is a brilliant look into the world of the Californian teenage snob scene. The overall theme is that these teens have nothing to lose, of course most books would look that they have all to gain but not this one. This book looks into the world of these overly rich teens and their search for something real in their life. They are all drugged induced, sex obsessed, and party wired. The graphic details of their sex lives, encounters with death and drug related activities can come off as very disturbing. The main character Clay, dwells on the past in many excerpts of the book looking into a younger more life enriched time of his life. He does however get the upper hand from his friends, he gets to leave this teenage wasteland to go back to school in New Hampshire. He is only home in Los Angeles from Christmas break. His realizing the need to escape shows that he is the only one who has structure in the book.
