(Antoine de Saint Exupery)

The poetic fairytale ?The little prince? written in 1942 in America by Antoine de Sainte Exupéry is a dedication to a friend in France occupied by foreign troops at that time. The narrator of the story, who strands as a pilot in the desert, is found by a strangely wise child and experiences a vision of pictures and thoughts which lets him life this story almost as reality. This little boy introduces himself as a prince who has escaped from a distant, different world and from the questions, statements and the rhetorical volubility of his dearest rose. This rose would also be shown as a virgin girl, who because of verdancy and shame opposes to the love efforts of the young lover, since the juvenile doesn't anticipate what the female soul inwardly really wants. The little prince experiences these wishes thereupon on his journey through Worlds, Space and Time. He learns from different symbolic people the different characters and qualities of the adults and their society. Contrasts and apparently senseless contradictions run through the mind of the child until finally it thinks to understand them. Orders from the top not obeyed to, vanity, thirstful for admiration but never finding its hope, The forgetting of the forgetting because of shame for oneself and the wish to be different, the desire for and the possession of things that cannot even be bought with money but still having a price. Yet there are also ideas, lights that glow shortly and will always be extinguished quicker and quicker. But these ideas are from the viewpoint of their author only bad, because time runs that quick that in the moment of enlightment the ideas are already old and useless and that author?s time itself is about to sink in the darkness of the night. And when the little prince realizes that his rose, like all other flowers too, is perishable and will perish, he wants to go back to his world. A fox finally explains to the prince, what friendship is and what it means to be friends. One can become friend and even more, when the feelings are there, feelings that will come and stay; friendship turning to love up to the time of death. The little prince awakes through the wisdom and the knowledge of a prince, of a dandy, of an alcoholic, of a rich person and a thinker, but none of them finds and realizes what only a child can understand. The child understands that the world must be seen with childish eyes and that the good comes from the heart, from deep inside. Overcoming the fear of the perishable can enrich life and lead to happiness without repentance in love, harmony and community for all people. A game apparently only children understand. The little prince who understands this, being a child, escapes to country of the heart by being dead. He kills himself with snake poison to reach this goal and to return to his rose withouth wealth but with love and goodness in his heart. Or is it simply only a romantic love story for children in which little adults learn the first steps in a world of love? It is a story for children with philosophically, wise and and fantastic elements. Exupery?s friend, grown up as will as Antoine himself is also seen in the book as a little child. This inconsistency between the conception of the world and the viewpoint of the children turned great, the adults and the partly very naive and so poetically beautiful after-thorough questions and wisdoms of a world from child eyes seen runs through the action as a red thread. Exupery puts the subtly differentiated positions of the generations into the center oh his story.
