Aint I A Women
(Bell Hooks)
Bell Hooks, one of many great African American feminist of our time offers a clear insight as to why the "Devaulation" of African American women is the way it is in America. First of all, when Jane Doe goes missing in America, we are all put on high alert. Her family and friends are surrounded by the so called media circus. On other hand, when Shimeika Doe goes missing we rarely if barely hear about her gone missing from among her loved ones. It could be perhaps because of the Devaulation of the African American women during slavery. According to Bell Hooks, one has to only look at TV to see how the African American women is dipicted over and over again. She is portrayed as a whore, prostitute, and to keep up with the changing times the crack head is always a starring role for the African American women. On the whole because of history the African-American women is portrayed as a sex goddess ready and willing. The Devaualtion occured as a result of African American women being exploited and raped during the course of slavery an outward of 100 years. Sadly, many so called critics of slavery known as the abolishnist condemed the rape of of black women; while there were many who hypocritically; who feel black women welcomed such violations upon their bodies. There is no doubt that the Devaluation of African American women became still feel the way today. Maybe not as bad, but to a certain degree it may not be as ourwardly prevelant; but the equality is far from giving African American women her full face value.
