The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy
(Douglas Adams)
once upon a time i was a kid . and kids we all know have dreams. and they dream differently.they dream differently simply because they haven't yet done a lot of things that could have possibly rewired their brain. so there i was , where i have always liked to be ...either in a bookstore or in a libray.when i first picked up the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, i was in one of my favourite libraries. simply because i did not have enough dough to buy a book off the shelf...and heck! i liked being in my favourite library with an eye out for all the books that are returned...hoping to find something that will teleport me into my favourite couch...in the throes of anticipation of another ride through hyperspace and all that stuff that we sci-fi geeks like. i guess that is how i became a couch potato. and i dont regret it one bit.i still like to prop myself up in my favourite couch and teleport myself away from reality. the dreamer that i am i was having a simple burger ...and looking out the windows of the restaurant at the end of the universe...and dreaming dreams... of writing a novel that would take the 'the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy' off the shelves ...and replace it with mine instead... "looking for something ...boyo"? i hate being called boyo.it reminded me of school. i was about to retort...i am quite fast at it...when something about his appearance struck me as being familiar. hey!gooky gooks, here's the genius in person. the man himself.doughlas adams. not only was i flabbergasted, i was at a loss for words. fortunately for me, douglas adams himself decided to be the conversation opener..."so, you don't like me calling you boyo..."? "how did you guess that"? for i am good at keeping a deadpan face. he gave a vague shrug ...gesturing out the windows at the chaos that was the birth and the death of the universe... easily visible in all its colourful glory. "when the universe was created, so was intuition...and a lot of other things." "also this"...he said, plonking down what looked to be one of his famous visiting cards. "so the next time you want to write a book better than the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy...you will of course...call me" his parting words were"i am as much of a businessman as a detective, you know" he turned back to say "oh , i almost forgot,i will be sending you a reading list you will have to work your way through...your reading habits are not quite upto the mark you know." "you might have to start with good old sherlock holmes." "don't look so dejected...it might not be sci-fi...but it is still one of the best works on deduction there is." " and you could do with a lot of boning up on deductive reasoning" all this was beginnning to sound like hard work. and doughlas as usual had guessed it. "it is. the universe is the most complex piece of art available" then with a wry grin, he asked me " do you want to buy it ?" " you've already bought it...you are doing what you like best. " and who gets to do that? "the guy who owns the place, of course."
