Back at the Dursleys for the Summer Holidays Harry is visited by a strange house elf named Dobby, who seems to punish himself at any given moment. He tells Harry not to go back to Hogwarts because there is danger there. He claims to want to protect Harry but ends up just getting him into deep trouble with the Dursleys. When he magically makes a cake float from the kitchen to the sitting room and lands on the head of their important guest, Dobby dissappears leaving Harry to face the consequences of the his uncles rage.
Locked in his rooms with bars on the windows, and his owl ,'Hedwig', locked in her cage in the corner, Harry wandered why he hadn't heard from any of his new friends over the summer holidays. He feels alone and forgotten. How indeed could the famous Harry Potter be treated so badly by these Muggles.
Then he is shocked by some bright lights coming towards his window. It was Ron, and two of his brothers in a flying car. They were worried because they hadn't heard from him all summer. They rescued him and he remained with the Weasleys for the remainder of the summer.
School-time was fast approaching and they need to get their books from Diagon Alley. To get there they use floo powder and Harry finds himself lost in the dark Nocturn Alley but is quickly saved by Hagrid who guides him back to Diagon Alley and to his friends.
In the bookshop there appear to be a book signing by famous wizard, Gilderoy Lockhart, who had written nearly every book on their list. He announces that he will be their new 'Defence Against The Dark Arts' teacher in the coming School year.
Their first day doesn't go to plan. They approach platform nine and three quarters, but Harry and Ron, as they charged towards the enchanted wall, crash into it. All the other weasleys were through and on the train. They didn't know what to do so they borrowed Mr Weasleys flying car and flew all the way to Hogwarts, they have a bumpy landing when they crash into a whomping willow. Unfortunately some muggles had seen them flying the car and they get into some trouble from the start of the year.
Despite the initial trouble Harry is overjoyed to be back at the school. This was more home to him than the Durleys had ever been. It also felt good to be back on the Quidditch pitch, although he comes to a spot of bother when a bludger tries to kill him. Strange tings start happening and then the school caretakers cat is found petrified in one of the school corridors. Soon there is talk of the Chamber of Secrets being reopened by slytherins heir, but who is it?
Soon there are more attacks on muggle borns all over the school. At a duelling lesson Harry discovers that he has the rare gift of parseltongue (the ability to talk to snakes). This leads to everyone belioeving him to be Slytherin's Heir.
It is a mysterious diary that Harry and Ron find in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom that tells Harry what happened 50 years ago. When the Chamber had been opened before.
Lucius Malfoy, the father of Harry's arch enemy, Draco Malfoy, who is on the board of the Ministry of Magic, arrests Hagrid, accusing him of openeing the chamber of secrets, as he had been accused of opening it 50 years prior. This was the reason that he was expelled, but Dumbledore never believed that he was responsible so he brought him back to the school as a gamekeeper. Malfoy also suspends Dumbledore and the school is in grave peril. The last time the Chamber was opened, the monster within it killed a girl.
The race is on to solve this mystery, where is the chamber of secrets. Espeicially now the Hermoine has been petrified and lays in the hospital wing, stiff as a board. Through a helpful hint from Hagrid to follow the spiders, Harry and Ron find some of the answers they are looking for but also face mortal danger in the forbidden forest.
They hurry back to the school in a race against time to save Hogwarts from the wrath of the slytherin beast within the Chamber...but first the have to find the!!
