Harry Potter : And The Philosophers Stone.
(J. K. Rowling)

Living with the Dursleys is no picnic. When young Harry Potter's parents died in a car accident when he was a baby, he was sent to the Durleys to live. His Aunt and Uncle didn't like anything untoward, normal was the only way to be and they certainly didn't like any attention drawn to them or their spoilt son Dudley, who was the same age as Harry.
Dudley had everything and Harry it seemed had nothing. The Dudleys didn't even like giving him birthday or Christmas presents, so the gifts weren't really gifts at all. Harry didn't even have his own room. He had to live in the cupboard under the stairs.
Life was unbearable at the Dursleys, but then it was time for him to go to school. Dudley was to go to the finest school, the one his father went to. Harry on the other hand was to go to the local school which was not a very good school at all, but he was looking forward to it because it meant that there would be a time in the day where he wasn't being bullied by the Dursleys.
Harry waited with baited breathe for the first day of term, but then something happened, a letter came for harry. The dursleys tried to hide it but then more letters came, and then more, and more. The Dursleys tried to hide this secret since Harry had come to live with them. The truth about Harry's parents! And how he got his lightening bolt shaped scar on his forehead!
The Dursleys took Harry away but the letters followed. So they moved again and still they followed. Soon they were in a shack at the top of a hill out to sea. But still the letters flooded in their millions, and then a knock came at the door.
The door opened and there loomed a giant shadow. It came in looking for harry. He introduces himself as Hagrid and gives Harry his letter.
It is a letter to say that he has been accepted at Hogwarts School of Wizardry. He thought he was dreaming, but Hagrid reassured him that he was indeed a wizard and his parents had not died in a car accident at all, that they were wizards too, and were killed by an evil Wizard that even the giant Hagrid feared to mention the name of.
Now his adventure begins, and the first school day held more for him that he even imagined it would be at the local school. To start the journey to the Magical school he had to catch the Hogwarts Express train at platform nine and three quarters, but when he got there the platform did not exist. Then he spotted a family of redheads, rushing towards Harry. It turned out that the youngest boy Ron was starting at Hogwarts too, so they kindly helped Harry onto the secret platform that the Muggles (non-magic people) couldn't see.
Once they get to the School there is a huge feast and the sorting hat puts all the first years into the schools houses, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Harry was overwhelmed by his initial popularity. He was famous because of what happened the day his parents died. Soon Harry finds his way, with ease, through the ever changing staircases to the dormatories, and feels more at home than he ever did at the dursleys, but although he didn't have to put up with Dudley Dursley any longer, he did have an arch enemy from day one, in the form of Draco Malfoy. Although he did not have to face this alone because he had something he never had before...friends!
Harry, Ron and Hermoine (a muggle born who is a bit of a swat), stick together through thick and thin to solve the mystery of the stolen Philosophers stone. Who has taken it? Why is it so important? and what exactly is it?
Harry finds some truths about his real family and triumphs in the obscure game of Quidditch.
Although he faces danger and even death, he has never been so happy in his life.
