Sell And Grow Rich The 10 Habits Of Highly Successful Salespeople
(JOE GANEDOLFO, PHD AND DONALD JAY KORN)
WHEN THE HEAVIEST HITTER IS ON YOUR SIDE You may wonder why I am starting a book about selling with a chapter on religion. The answer is simple: you need to have certain fundamentals in place before you succeed in anything, in any profession or career. First of all, you need to be right with the Man Upstairs. No matter how you earn a living, God has to come first. You can?t separate your personal life from your business life. Our objective on earth is holiness, not happiness. In every field of endeavour, nobody has a perfectly easy time. The winners are those who overcome adversity. That?s especially true with selling. You need strength to deal with all the rejections, all the prospects who say no. If you can?t get the strength you need from your husband, your wife or from someone else, you have to get it from another source: the Man Upstairs. NO SUBSTITUTIONS To call upon this inner strength, your behaviour must be based on the Ten Commandments. Remember that they?re called ?commandments?-God commanded; He didn?t make suggestions. God gave you the lead; now you have to follow. Following those commandments will definitely help you in your career, if your career, if you commit to them enthusiastically. Enthusiasm really means ?God within.? If you?re enthusiastic about what you do and the way you do it, you?ll be successful. On the other hand, you can?t succeed without having God within. If you?re not right with the Man Upstairs, you won?t be a success; no matter what field you?re in. all the great human beings have placed God first. Every giant I?ve ever met, in any field, believes in that one fundamental-you need to be right with the Man Upstairs. Sports stars such as Orel Hershiser, Michael Jordan and Herschel Walker thank God for their ability. Sincerity Sells Salespeople especially need spiritual strength. No matter what you?re selling, you have to sell yourself first. Without sincerity and inner peace, you cannot be a great salesperson. Every prospect goes through mental gymnastics before buying something. They say to themselves, ?If this salesperson seems right with God, I?ll trust him to not lie, cheat or steals from me. Therefore, I think I will go ahead because I know he has my best interest in mind.? If you don?t believe that, you?re living a fantasy life. Suppose you?re not right with God and the prospect detects that. That?s when you hear prospects say, ?I want to shop around.? They?re really saying ?I don?t trust you.? That?s why you lose sales. It doesn?t have anything to do with product knowledge. People buy trust. If you?re not right with God, you can?t tell the truth. People can tell you?re not right with God when they look at you and you look away- they won?t trust you. And you won?t sell anything. Therefore, a salesperson who is at peace with himself or herself makes a good impression on prospects. People in other walks of life need religion, too. Take athletes, for example. The mark of a great athlete is the ability to concentrate. You can?t concentrate if your mind is not right, if you?re not right with the Man Upstairs.
