Kgb Today
(John Barron)

Publicidade
The author is an expert in intelligence organizations of the extinct Soviet Union. It all began in the November of 1979 at the request of the CIA who provided the interview with Commandant Stalislav Aleksandrovich Levchenco who had fled to the United States. Levchenco had a lot to say and in April 1980 he spent three weeks with the author on the island of Maui, rebuilding his entire life, which he did in a very full and detailed way, serving as a stepping stone towards the book. The elaboration of the book also involved the contribution of deserters Rudolf Herrman and Professor Hugh George Hambleton, a Canadian economist who worked as an agent for the KGB, having published chapter 10 of the book in Reader?s Digest.
It is without a doubt a pleasant read, telling of about the Soviet intelligence services which history showed to be a failure as they could not avoid the collapse of the Soviet Union.
It is a book of ten chapters and two large appendices which are:
I. A tyranny of difficulties
II. Official and gentleman
III. The well of snakes
IV. A secret decision
V. The main enemy
VI. Reality mouth down
VII. Passionate agent
VIII. The heir
IX. The man who loved being a spy
X. Resisting aggression

Appendix A describes relations between Soviet diplomats expelled by spying and the rest of the world. Appendix B is the worldwide organization of the KGB.
It is a book I recommend you Read on a rainy evening to appreciate how illogical a spy machine it was and its perfection so that in the end it wouldn?t serve to identify the enemies of the Soviet State that were found in the elite of the Soviet Union.
It is easy to get hold of and was a best seller at the time.
