The story of Cinderella who made crown prince crazy with
desire had eternal appeal in the human mind. So, no wonder
love story would enchant its readers. Love story is about
the various shades of love only ?the romantic passion
between a young man and young lady and filial love between
a rich father who feels shy to express his emotion for his
son and frank and uninhibited expression of friendly love
of a proud working class father for his only daughter.
Jenny the modern Cinderella of the American novel met
Oliver at her library. The rich boy? a student of famous
Harvard School and successor of the Barret family had come
there to borrow a book. Jenny had challenged the young man
with her wits and in no time they were head over heels for
each other. They argued and pulled each and others legs
constantly without mentioning the magic word love, which
seemed to wallow them in gorgeous elves, whenever they were
together. Then jenny got a fellowship to peruse music
that would take her away from Oliver and Oliver wont let
her go. He introduced her to his aristocratic parents but
parents as expected saw an opportunist in the girl who
hailed from a working class family and had a father who
made pastries. Oliver abdicated his ancestral patronage to
marry Jenny ?the ordinary girl.
Life was not easy for the newly weds. The dream of a happy
conjugal life had taken toll on Jenny?s dream of being a
singer. She had to take job and work extremely hard to keep
Oliver in law school. They tigers of poverty stared them at
face but they braved it with the strength of togetherness.
The haughty parents of Oliver could not overcome the ego
and accept Jenny and Oliver was not ready to go back to a
place where his love was not accepted with honors.
Finally they overcame it. Oliver passed out and got a good
job. Life once again showed its smooth surface and story
seemed to move toward a fairy tale ending. Then it receded
into abyss of suffering. Jenny was diagnosed with Cancer.
The Hard work of the struggling days kept her so busy she
did not notice the initial symptoms of the disease. It was
late phase. Except for buying time there was little to be
done. The short span of her life that was left, Oliver
tried his level best to give her everything, she desired
from life. But Jenny only wanted one thing ?some more time
with Oliver. The inevitable happened and 25 year old lively
girl had live the world premature keeping many a
unfulfilled dream behind and leaving a miserable man, whose
life ceased to have an aim from the moment of her death.
Oliver?s Father had come to the hospital and expressed
sympathy at his loss. He even said sorry for his earlier
behavior. Losing Jenny the hero could feel the unspoken
love of his father and reminded him that seeking
forgiveness was redundant when people love each other.
Love story is a celebration of the noblest human emotion
that surpasses the barrier of financial status and social
standing. In simple and subtle way it depicted that
contrasted to heroic deeds of fairy tale hero?s the
essence of love remain in the humble living of common man.
