(Fern Michaels)
Vickie and Rosie are best friends. Their friendship is strained with Rosie?s upcoming marriage to Kent Bliss. Vickie believes that Rosie deserves better, but Rosie?s love blinds her to the truth. Vickie sees Kent fooling around with another woman just hours before his wedding. She can?t watch it anymore, so she decides to leave. Vickie takes a new job as a travel companion for an older woman who needs her assistance. On the eve of Rosie?s wedding, she leaves for Europe without looking back. Rosie and Kent get married, without Rosie?s best friend. The honeymoon is soon over, and Kent?s true colors begin to show. Rosie is wealthy, because she has worked hard. Kent loves Rosie?s wealth and would rather freeload than work for a living. Three years later, Rosie is fifty-five pounds heavier and miserable. She decides enough is enough. Kent has had multiple affairs and is not paying one cent in maintaining their household. Rosie issues an ultimatum that Kent chooses to ignore. That afternoon, Rosie buys five lottery tickets for the $302 million jackpot. She kicks Kent out that evening. The next morning she discovers she has won the lottery and is sure Kent will want to take half. She decides not to claim the jackpot, so she won?t have to share with her greedy husband. Meanwhile, her business is growing. Rosie decides to move on with her life, and begins by losing some extra weight. Vickie returns after her employer dies and once again enters Rosie?s life. The business is thriving under their partnership and their friendship is mended. Hiring a personal trainer, Rosie regains her confidence and trains for the Thanksgiving triathlon. Kent?s desperation for her lottery winnings leads him to do dangerous things including stealing a gun. She makes a side bet with Kent and puts it all on the line. Kent and Rosie face each other in the triathlon challenge. The final leg of the race will change their lives.
