Claire Adams is a flourishing mosaic artist. After her divorce, she sought refuge in her local church. She used her talents and financial resources to benefit the congregation. Her business is growing and her reputation is attracting more commission projects.
A church friend invites her to entertain a visiting homeless shelter director. During the course of the evening, Claire is challenged to find God?s unique purpose for her life.
The next morning, Claire is certain that God wants her to sell everything and follow him. She shares her vision with friends and is met with a chilly response. They are concerned that she is making a rash decision and throwing her life away.
Claire does some soul searching and accepts the challenge. She leaves her successful business behind after taking care of her staff. A picture of a peaceful looking town called Steadfast, Kansas is drawing her to find her destiny.
Leaving her home with only a few items, she travels by bus. Her middle of the night arrival finds her homeless, near penniless, and without direction. She encounters a young runaway and their journey begins. As the story unfolds, Claire becomes known as the Library Ghost, as she seeks refuge in a place she can afford.
Many lives are touched by her quest. A young girl, an angry widow, and a Shakespearean quoting widower find a higher purpose for their lives as well. Claire discovers that those who had been strangers just days before, now comprise her circle of friends.
Bailey Mason, a successful businessman, has a heart attack after an argument with his son. This starts the dominoes falling and the jumble of events that occur clarify Claire?s future plans.
She must decide whether to forsake her artistic talents and search blindly for a different course, or further God?s work with the monetary gain from her gift.
Individually, the cast of characters discovers that God?s best for us evolves as we listen and obey. Claire?s God given talent rises above the frantic chaos and the way is made clear.
