The Guilty Heart

Nick is a well-renowned and charming children books illustrator. Apparently, his life is wonderful: he has got a beautiful wife, an incontestable professional success, and, above all, an eight-years-old son named Owen. Unfortunately, his passion for women incessantly pushes him to seek new affairs, and one of these will indeed cause his ruin. During a Halloween afternoon, Nick goes out to meet one of his lovers, entrusting his nanny to look after Owen (the girl whose had a difficult past; her life had been rescued by Nick's wife, a doctor in a famous local hospital).But the girl decides to spend the Halloween night with her friends and her boyfriend, leaving Owen with a mate. At his return, Nick discovers his son has disappeared, and, in order to avoid any suspicion from policemen, he is forced to confess his. Ten year's despair start hereby: Nick ransoms from Ireland to America, attending squalid and forgotten night clubs. One night the man has an encounter which will lead him back to re-conquer his lost life. He watches the performance of a girl he knew well, being one of his nanny's friends. Destroyed by his sense of guilt, Nick goes back home in order to investigate on the mysterious events of that cursed Halloween. In a few months, the man will meet other desperate characters, whose life has been deeply affected by men's cruelty. He will get in touch with the boys and the girls who crowded Owen's everyday life, and, most important, he will see before his very eyes the depravation hidden behind the apparent harmony of his neighbors' house. Once again involved in police investigations, Nick will eventually succeed in finding the body of his beloved son, and he will redeem his conscience thought a long and painful fight with the evil and human perversion.
