Animal Farm
(George Orwell)

Publicidade
In 1917, Russia was ripe with revolution and Tsar Nicholas and his royal family had both their power and lives taken fromt them when the Bolsheviks (Communists), led by Lenin, took power. Though responsible for a ruthless bloodbath, Lenin's motives were noble, being that he wanted better things for the people of Russia. After Lenin, there were no longer any visible outside enemies and the fighting was internal. This is the definition of the metaphor that is Animal Farm. The animals are angry with Farmer Jones. He keeps food from them, he abuses them, and he neglects them. The pigs, being the sharpest animals, decide that this will no longer take place. The oldest and wisest of the pigs, Napoleon, tells the other animals, righteously, that they should not stand for this and they should rebel against the oppression of Farmer Jones. The night of his rousing speech, Napoleon dies. Then, the rebellion is left to two potential leaders. These leaders cooperate, due to the common bond shared in their wanting Jones gone, but once he is gone, all they have left is themselves to fight. The more honest of the pigs is ostracized and ultimately the leader becomes the more narcissistic and manipulative swine. While all of the animals, including the pigs, hated how the people treated them, the rest of the animals, except for the pigs, saw that the pigs had become just like the people, and there was no difference between them.
Orwell wants us to know that this could happen again, as it was still going on during his time of writing this book. He tries to show us just how complicated and difficult the human race is by using these simple animals. People too, are divided into different categories, some of us are rulers, some of us are ruled, and some us are contenders that never make it to the game.
