Eye Of The Beholder
(Marc Behm)
This book..... is one of a kind. In endless ways. The movie based on it was very effective, the one with Evan McGregor and Ashley Judd. It's very abstract, just like this thing I'm writing, very psychological and a bit confusing. The story is based on a private investigator who is told to follow and watch after a certain woman. This woman, however, turns out to be a cold blooded murderer. Or murderess. She goes on to marry a guy, kill him, then take his money and change her attire to go on to the next one. The man in charge of reporting on her gets too addicted and cannot keep himself from being on her tail. He follows her everywhere, never revealing himself. McGregor's personality fits disturbingly perfect, in fact, for the movie version. The book, however, is much more graphic, thorough, and spine-tingling than the movie. It covers a much longer time span, and shows some very very dark sides of humanity which one never sees in the way that the book describes them 'till he reads it. Or she. It's hard to explain which sides of humanity I speak of, in fact. Frankly, the woman in the book often runs into some very nasty, evil behaving individuals, but treats them even more evil than they do her. Somehow in the end of it I was put in some kind of mesmerizing trance out of which I was afraid I'd never escape 'till I watched a number of "happy" movies. It's written so skillfully, that the writer's almost able to show that, as dark as he made the world seem, it really is that way. Thankfully, it's not true. The tantalizing horror this book was able to put upon me slowly went away as I went about my life. Therefore, it's not as realistic as it seemed as I read it. In a nutshell, though... the world is spun by optimists. It's held together by good, happy, and positive things. Where evil really comes from and where it find itself a place to nest... I still cannot figure out. And why people are so addicted to it. It's it, I'm sure what keeps it alive. I don't mean to say that the book is not worth reading, however. It just seemed much more powerful and fulfilling, in a sense, than almost any other book I've ever read. It's a book that covers a large part of a person's life. And that always scares me. Somehow similar to the ending of "The Shining", the picture shown in the end. Those who've seen it may know what I mean. If not, write me an email or something. Well, that's about all I have. Do think happy thoughts and read happy books, if you can. Don't leave upsetting ideas and emotions hang on to you for too long. Life's too short. Watch a rerun of "It's a wonderful life" or something. Thanks for your time!!!!
