My Sister's Keeper
(Jodi Picoult)
When Kate was two years old, she was diagnosed with Lukemia. They tried kemo, medicines, everything they could. Nothing was making Kate's health better. She was just getting worse. Without any blood transfusions, Kate didn't have long. Kate's brother wasn't a match and nether were Kate's parents. The doctor's thought of one option; have a baby who is the same blood match. So Kate's parents decided the best thing was to do was have another baby. Nine months later, Anna was born. Ever since that day, she's been given blood transfusions and transplants and anything else that Kate needed to keep her well. Anna, being so young had no choice in the matter, it was her parent's decision. So the family goes through trials and tribulations. Anna is now thirteen years old, and decides she doesn't want to do transfusions and transplants anymore. It has taken a toll on her. For thirteen years she has been given blood and getting poked with needles. So the family is dealing with a lot right now. They have Anna who doesn't know what to do about her sister, and her brother is the rebel of the family and they have him to deal with as well. Anna now has to make a decision, to continue helping her sister and sacraficing her own health, or stop helping her sister and take care of her own health for once in her thirteen years of life. This is a very tough decision for a thirteen year old girl, especially with your parents not standing behind you. All she has is her older brother, who is behind her no matter what she chooses. This is a very touching story. There is laughter and tears, smiles and anger. This is a book that you can't put down, until you're finished.
