Did Jesus Christ have a child? Was Mary Magdalene really a prostitute who gave birth to this child of Christ? These are just two of the topics that Dan Brown hits on in his book The Davinci Code. Some of the information in this book is downright blasphemous and completely opposite of any facts you might have learned through a christian upbringing, but it is well written and does get you second guessing many of the things you were positive were true. The smooth transitions from truth to fiction will have you delving into history books to try and distinguish between the two.
Being from the actual "bible belt" i could easily understand why christians would protest this book, but as a young man who is still trying to search for meaning in life i found it to be just what it is, "another idea". Not only that, I learned important historical facts about different artists, their art, opus dei and other religious organizations, and mathematical facts and numerology that i had never known before. And the way Dan Brown tells a story will keep you anxious about what might happen next and is sure to keep you up all hours of the night reading "just one more page". The book is about 450 pages and it took me about four days to read it and i am definately not a fast reader, its just that good. There's a reason its been at the top of the bestsellers list for about 3 or 4 years. And by the way, this isnt Dan Brown and i am not a particular fan of his. The story draws you in and makes you feel as if you were right there in Paris with main character Robert Langdon. This story really is great and i would highly recommend it, no matter what your religious beliefs. I would rank it in my top five list and ive never really been into fiction or religious books. thankx, im out.
