Drugs Are The Next In Thing
(Tamara Finnen)
I am only sixteen, notice the world only? I state that simply because at the age of sixteen I find it amazing that all my friends and peers are dancing around high on ecstasy and speed, those who aren?t are sitting back tripping out on weed and other numerous depressants. Last night I attended a party, a usual activity for people my age group but I left sick with disgust as I sat back at watched them all, one after another, purchase and take the illegal substances that changed and manipulated their personality to a severe 360 degrees. That night whilst I watched and sat back, not jumping off roofs into swimming pools or pretending to fly around a small-crowed room, I realized something, I need to get new friends. Could it be that my mother was right when she echoed them familiar words ?your friends are bad influences on you? over and over, or could it be that this is the 21st century and in the teenage world there has become two groups, two cliques, two status?s, your ether a drug taker, or not a drug taker. When did the world let the law, moral standards and general knowledge fall down the drain and get replaced with fast highs and dangerous fads taking lives of good kids in the wrong situations. Make no misake, drugs can kill you and you would think after advertisement after advertisement some people would understand that, but don?t hold your breath. I remember turning to my Friend Becky as she shook vigorously after the fast energetic boost of speed had worn off, her face was pale and her eyes glazed with a glossy look. I couldn?t see my smart intelligent friend threw them eyes, it wasn?t Becky who wanted to be a fashion designer and go to university and have a good life, no, it was Becky who thought tonight was nothing but normal, who kept enduring this endless hell, who keep doing this to herself, ruining and poisoning her body. I said to her, ?Don?t keep doing this? and she snickered a laugh replying threw short breaths ?it will go away in a few minuets, don?t worry, it is normal.? Only the smart ones who are addicted to drugs could mutter out something like ?its normal.? The scary part to me is that it is becoming normal, why? I have no idea; society is allowing it I suppose. Once upon a time, drugs were an unspeakable addiction you wouldn?t be proud to share or praise between one another, bur that time has certainly passed, you know for sure when you hear best mates egging one another on to puff that cone harder or sniff more, what kind of friends encourage killing yourself? Drugs are a huge problem and there only getting worse, the answer has to be having no tolerance, it has to be. When you allow drugs, for any reason, you are saying ?it?s okay? just like the dying youth who mutter out ?it?s normal,? you set the fine example for them to keep on doing what their doing to themselves. It?s a matter of survival for so many out there, it?s time we all worked together to try and close the gap between what is acceptable and what is not?
